"Traditional Culture in Contemporary Indonesia"


The documentary short Ono Niha, was shot in Indonesia in 1998. Based on the research of anthropologist Edward Peake. It describes the work of traditional healers on the island of Nias and highlights the difficulties they were facing as a result of the Suharto government’s suppression of traditional culture.

This film won the Prix de “l’Edition” at the Bruxelles film festival, and was commended at the Granada film festival.

It is available on DVD and is 36 mins long.
